Colorado State University, the gold standard for hurricane forecasts, released their 2021 Forecast and they are anticipating:
“The 2021 Atlantic basin hurricane season will have above-normal activity. Current weak La Niña conditions may transition to neutral ENSO by this summer/fall, but the odds of a significant El Niño seem unlikely. Sea surface temperatures averaged across the tropical Atlantic are currently near average, while subtropical Atlantic sea surface temperatures are warmer than normal. We anticipate an above-average probability for major hurricanes making landfall along the continental United States coastline and in the Caribbean.”
They forecast 17 named storms (vs. avg. of 12.1), 8 hurricanes (vs. avg. of 6.4), and 4 of them major hurricanes (vs. avg. of 2.7).
Digging into the details of their forecast they are saying that Palm Beach County has a 60% chance of a hurricane impact and Broward County a 59% chance.
Given the forecast and that the Hurricane Season starts in six weeks on June 1st, residential and commercial property owners should make plans now to safeguard your property.

Tax Day 2021 has been pushed out to May 17 from April 15 without penalties and interest, giving Americans more time to file their returns as the IRS implements sweeping tax code changes from the latest COVID-19 relief package.
It’s a busy time. Many Americans have tons of questions about their stimulus checks, taxes and unemployment aid after the American Rescue Plan became law.
So far, 127 million stimulus checks have been sent to Americans this month in the first two batches of direct payments. Many people are rushing to get their returns done so they can qualify for the latest round of stimulus aid.
One possibility for you in your tax return refund is if you didn’t qualify for any COVID stimulus payments last year because your income was too high in 2019, you might still get the 2020 stimulus money if you didn’t get any and if your income was lower in 2020. It will be in your tax return refund.
So the big question is, what will you use your COVID relief stimulus or refund for? Over half in the country are using it for home repair and improvement projects.
And because your Florida Homeowners Insurance is at risk of cancelation or modification if your roof is over 10 years old, you should consider using your stimulus and tax refunds for a new roof. See the Homeowner Insurance article here.

Recently you might have opened your mailbox and found a letter stating that your insurer has decided not to renew your homeowners insurance policy, like thousands of other homeowners recently.
Now what are you going to do?
Finding another company isn’t as easy as it used to be, as all but a handful of insurers, repelled by high rates of fraud and litigation, refuse to write new business in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
The remaining few will cover only new homes or existing homes with new roofs, agents say.
You have options, but you probably won’t like them. One is to sign on with state-owned Citizens Property Insurance Corp., the so-called “insurer of last resort,” which will leave you vulnerable to a surcharge of 45% of your annual premium if the company runs out of money paying claims after a catastrophic hurricane season.
Another option is to buy a policy that will pay you only the depreciated value of your roof if it must be replaced, leaving you on the hook for the difference — thousands of dollars. Florida insurance experts say that might soon become the only way to keep your home covered.
There is a better option. If you have an older roof, over 10 years old, get a new roof.
That will satisfy insurers and give you the peace of mind that your financial and safety risk is covered, especially for the upcoming rainy and Hurricane Season that starts in May.

On Sunday afternoon hail, up to 70 mph winds, and up to 2 inches of rain per hour pounded South Florida, especially the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County.
Power outages were widespread and uprooted trees and snapped and falling branches from Jupiter to Boca Raton were noted and photographed by residents.
A late season cold front was the cause. Heavy weather will continue through Monday until the front passes to the south. Clear skies are expected by Tuesday.
Heavy weather is a big part of Florida life.
